About Me

Hi, I’m Maxine, an experienced qualified Counsellor registered with the BACP. I’m a genuine people person by nature and really easy to talk to.

My background has included working within two very different industries. One wellbeing, alongside one of high exposure and critique. Experiencing two very contrasting worlds has allowed me to work with a diverse range of personalities and behaviours. This has given me invaluable Insight to insecurities, anxieties, discrimination and demanding expectations from various perspectives. Having experienced degrees of this myself, helps me to understand how debilitating it can be to a person. But also how, negatives can be turned into positives and how you can grow and heal through exploring and challenging unhealthy thoughts and beliefs. Each person’s struggle is unique to them, you know yourself better than anyone else. But I am good at stepping into another person’s world in order to share their understanding and vision, should I be trusted enough to do that.

As a Person Centred Counsellor you, the client, will always be central within our space together. A space that is comfortable and not clinical. Where you can be, or even discover your true self. I’ll follow your lead and work at your pace, where we can hopefully shut out any noise, judgement or expectation, and work together to help you find answers, peace or whatever it is you’re looking for. Here, we can slowly and safely explore what brought you into therapy in the first place. I will listen, really listen. I can’t promise that at times our work might not be challenging or confronting, but if it all gets a bit too much..then we can pause and breathe…and just sit quietly. It won’t always be serious, there will be elements of joy and laughter too. There will always be balance within our space. Counselling isn’t a sprint, there’s no time limit. The ball is in your court.

What can I help with?

During my practice to date I have supported clients with issues concerning but not limited to :

Reaching out for help and finding the right Counsellor can be scary. Maybe you’ve tried it before and it didn’t work? Or maybe you’ve simply been too afraid of the unknown ? I get it. However, one size doesn’t fit all. But I can assure you, it is worth the perseverance.

Essentially, It’s about finding a relational connection where trust and respect can be built on both sides. When that happens, that’s when the really good work can begin on a deep and meaningful level. I’m not here to give you answers or advice, but instead to help you create your own inner tools, to figure things out in order to heal yourself. That can be so empowering. Together this can be our aim. I promise not to confuse you with complicated words and phrases, my approach is down to earth, genuine and easy to understand.

I offer a free 15/20 minute informal chat, where you can tell me a little bit about what might be troubling you at the moment. Here, there is no obligationWe can decide whether or not we will be a good fit and if we can work together moving forward. All sessions are private and confidential, so, if that sounds okay, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Additional Training

As a Registered Member of the BACP, it is part of the criteria to undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) which is ongoing.

Having trained and worked with Samaritans for over 6 years as a Listening Volunteer, offered me yet another level of insight. Working with self harm and suicide ideation really brought home to me just how awful and desperate life can be in someone’s darkest moments. Callers, including prisoners, ranged from all ages, cultures, ethnicities, socio-economic and privileged backgrounds. It taught me simply, that struggle can come to anyone regardless of who you are or where you’re from. This was extremely rewarding in many ways and also a very humbling experience. To make even the slightest difference in someone’s life is profound.
