Hi, I am Maxine, an experienced qualified Person Centred Counsellor, huge people person by nature and really easy to talk to.
Life can be hard right … Maybe you’re feeling fed up of being judged ? Misunderstood ? Not listened to? Does that sound familiar at all? At times we can all be challenged in ways we never expected, finding ourselves feeling overloaded, lost and at times very much alone. We don’t want to feel ‘weak’ or feel like a ‘failure’ or a ‘burden’ to our loved ones. So we carry on… But it’s okay to not feel okay, and if you’re reading this, then maybe you’ve been brave enough to reach out, and if so, then maybe I can help.
My background has included working within the beauty/wellbeing and fashion industries, where I have encountered working with huge amounts of people with a diverse range of personalities and behaviours. This has given me invaluable Insight to struggle, insecurities, discrimination and demanding expectation from varying perspectives. Transitions within the workplace, home, or in stages of our own lives, can impact profoundly.
Having encountered periods of feeling exclusion and change in my own life at times, diversity, inclusion and belonging in all areas for everyone is extremely important to me. Though each person’s experience is completely unique to them, I can relate to how it feels to be different and understand the reluctance to step out of one’s comfort zone to ask for help.
However, as a Counsellor, I have often witnessed growth, empowerment and laughter within the therapy room should you choose to reach out.
I have also worked voluntarily within a mental health charity which was extremely enriching and for many years as a Listening Volunteer with Samaritans. This offered me a totally different insight. Working with self harm and suicide ideation really brought home to me just how awful and desperate life can be in someone’s darkest moments. Callers, including prisoners, ranged from all ages, cultures, ethnicities, socio-economic and privileged backgrounds. It taught me simply, that struggle can come to anyone, regardless of who you are or where you are from. This was extremely rewarding in many ways, and a very humbling experience for me. To make even the slightest difference is massive.
As a Person Centred Counsellor, you will always be central within our room. My aim is to continually build trust, respect and an honest therapeutic connection. Along with empathy and understanding, these values are core to creating that all important foundation. In achieving this, together, we can begin to explore your thoughts/feelings/fears on a deep and meaningful level away from the noise and judgement of others. In a safe and quiet space, I will listen in a way you may never have been heard before, by stepping into your frame of reference to view yourworld through youreyes from your own unique perspective. After all, you are your own best expert right? Noone knows you better than you! So I will follow your lead. I can’t promise that at times this quest won’t be challenging and confronting, so we will work at your pace, so you can control your own narrative. And if it all gets a bit too much..well, we can just sit quietly and breathe… pause and reset. Counselling isn’t a sprint,
It can be a marathon. But on this journey of twists and turns with elements of discovery and hopefully joy, I will do my very best to walk alongside you to process that heavy load so we can unpack the answers and hopefully discover clarity and peace. I’m not here to heal you, but instead, help you to heal yourself.
Reaching out for help and finding the right Counsellor can feel scary, but at the same time prove to be extremely liberating. So don’t be afraid to make contact. I offer a free 15/20 minute introductory, informal telephone call. There’s no obligation, it’s just to find out a little bit more about what might be troubling you, and to see if we might be a good fit. So, give me a call, and let’s see if we can work together.
